On the Horizon
It's been a while since I've shared an update. The past few months have been filled with long days in the studio preparing for a new solo exhibition opening on July 30 in Porto, which has left most of my thoughts and observations tucked away in sketchbooks rather than here.
I'm also excited to share that this September I'll be heading to Uppsala, Sweden, as the 2026 Art'n Fiber Artist-in-Residence at the Quilt Academy of Sweden. During the residency, I'll continue developing my research into burial quilts made from foraged seaweed and cyanotype—bringing together textiles, photography, and biomaterials to explore grief, transformation, and our relationships with more-than-human worlds.
From September 22–October 13, I'll be based in Storvreta, where I'll continue developing my research into burial quilts made from foraged seaweed and cyanotype. During the residency, I'll also explore how Swedish flora can enter into conversation with the algae I work with along the Portuguese coast, investigating new relationships between local plant materials, textiles, and place. I'll also lead a cyanotype workshop for local artists and give an artist talk at the Uppsala Art Museum.
It's an exciting season of making, research, and travel, and I'm looking forward to sharing more from both the exhibition and the residency in the months ahead.
More details about both projects will be coming soon. In the meantime, here's the residency announcement in Swedish.
